Conversation Prompts That Create Real Chemistry
Most conversations do not fail because people are boring.
They fail because both people stay in safe, low-information topics for too long.
Good prompts change that.
A Useful Prompt Sequence
Use a short sequence that gradually increases depth:
- Light context: "What kind of week are you having?"
- Preference: "What do you do to reset when life gets loud?"
- Meaning: "What kind of friendship feels most natural to you?"
- Story: "Tell me about a moment you felt fully understood."
Prompt Rule
Ask questions that invite stories, not one-word answers.
Prompts That Usually Work
- "What is something people assume about you that is usually wrong?"
- "What was your favorite version of yourself in the last five years?"
- "What helps you feel safe with new people?"
- "What is one small thing that reliably improves your mood?"
Prompts to Avoid Early
- Interview-style career questions for 20 minutes straight
- Heavy trauma prompts with no emotional runway
- Rapid-fire questions that feel performative
The Goal
The point is not to force depth.
The point is to create a conversation where honesty feels normal fast enough that both people want a second interaction.
